Selling Us What We Are Missing

Modern society is designed to narrow the bandwidth of natural human experience, and then profit from selling us back the experiences it robs us of.

We love to laugh - but no one gets together to tell stories anymore… So we have streaming services and TikTok.

We love the thrill of adventure - but few go out in the wild to look for food anymore… So we have theme parks, dirt bikes, and skydiving.

We love a good challenge - but proving yourself with sports or going through rights of passage is totally optional now… So we play video games to feel accomplished and live vicariously by watching other people play sports.

We crave the nourishment of meat and organs - but we are told they’re bad for the planet because they aren’t as profitable as the empty processed food that causes you to crave more.

We love the intimacy, vulnerability, and freedom of sex - but we don’t even know how to talk to one another anymore let alone get to home base… So we watch other people have fake sex online or engage in soulless casual hookups.

See the problem here? The real thing is always best, but our culture raises us on costly, yet cheap imitations.
